On Windows, OSL hides its own window from screenshots, screen recordings, and screen-sharing — so a shared screen or a stray screenshot can't leak your conversations. On by default; turn it off anytime you need to record or present.
Burn on demand
Wipe your keys for a channel, a server, or your entire account. Past messages become permanently unreadable.
Fully open source

What OSL doesn't protect against
Honesty up front. Encryption has limits.
Discord still sees metadata
Discord can see who you're talking to and when, even if they can't read what you're saying.
Compromised devices aren't safe
If your computer is compromised, OSL can't protect your messages — encryption only protects data in transit and at rest.
Voice and video aren't covered
Voice and video calls aren't encrypted by OSL. Discord's own encryption applies there.
Frequently asked questions
Will Discord ban my account for using OSL?
OSL modifies the Discord client locally. Discord's ToS technically prohibits client modifications. We're not aware of any bans related to OSL specifically, but use it at your own risk.
Can my friends read my encrypted messages without OSL?
No. OSL recipients need OSL installed to decrypt messages. Anyone without OSL sees ciphertext.
What happens if I forget my password?
All your encrypted history becomes permanently inaccessible. There is no recovery. Write your password down somewhere safe.
Is OSL free?
Yes. The free tier gives you unlimited encrypted text messaging with no time limits and no ads. The paid tier unlocks sending encrypted attachments and beta channel access. See the pricing page for details.
