The free tier isn't a trial. It's not a limited preview. Encrypted text messaging works the same on both tiers — no time limits, no message caps, no ads. We make money when someone wants to send encrypted attachments, which is the heavier feature to support. Receivers of encrypted attachments don't pay — so a free user can read what a paid friend sends them.
Every tier gets the same cryptographic protection — Free and Paid users have identical security.
Your keys and messages live on your computer. We can't read them. There's nothing to sell, even if we wanted to.
OSL never builds a social graph of who talks to whom. Discord sees that metadata, we don't.
OSL has real costs — the keyserver runs on Cloudflare, payments go through Stripe, email delivery costs money, and the project takes time to build. The cryptographic core is auditable; the business stays closed so we can actually keep it running.

You go back to the free tier — unlimited encrypted text messaging stays available, you just lose the ability to send encrypted attachments and beta channel access until you resubscribe.
